British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak briefed NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on the UK’s Integrated Review Update, due to be published Monday, which will outline the British government’s evolving global strategy in light of Russia’s operation in Ukraine and growing volatility and international competition.
This came in a phone call between Stoltenberg and Sunak today, Sunday, before the latter headed to the United States to launch the next phase of the Okus nuclear submarine partnership, according to the British government’s official website.
Sunak also reiterated the UK’s intention to remain a major contributor to NATO, recognizing the importance of continuing to invest in collective Euro-Atlantic security. Stoltenberg welcomed the UK’s valuable role as a strong NATO ally.
Sunak and Stoltenberg agreed to continue working together in the run-up to the NATO Leaders’ Summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, in June this year, to ensure that the alliance addresses the threat on Europe’s eastern flank and is ready for future conflicts.
